Indoor Escalators

Our new generation of escalators represents a significant advance in performance.
AmadaTECH is committed to energy efficiency and has developed a range of innovative features to reduce consumption, including AMD-Mod and LED lighting.
AMD-Mod Systems
The weight of passengers on the escalator is determined by the load information of the converter, enabling the escalator to adapt its speed to the number of passengers. This reduces energy consumption and extends the service life of the escalator.
The automatic speed reduction system ensures energy efficiency by reducing the escalator’s speed when there are no passengers.

Escalator Maintenance and Safety

The invention and use of escalators is intended solely for the transportation of people. The transportation of large and heavy objects on escalators may cause damage or deterioration to the unit, as well as clutter and scratches to the side and head panels. Such situations may lead to accidents and create an unsafe environment. Please see below for details of our safety precautions.

Escalator Safety

Escalators are becoming increasingly prevalent in our country, with their presence becoming a common sight in public places and shopping malls, among other locations. These devices significantly facilitate movement between different levels within buildings, offering a convenient mode of transportation. However, it is crucial to note that if these devices are not used correctly or if they are not adequately maintained, they can pose a significant safety hazard. The majority of injuries sustained by individuals are a result of falls, with hands, feet, or shoes becoming caught in the escalator mechanisms. The primary causes of these incidents are typically attributed to the behavior of passengers, equipment malfunctions, and external factors. Escalator-related accidents can result in serious medical consequences, including soft tissue damage, severe injuries, and even death. As our population, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, begins to use escalators more frequently, it is essential to understand the potential risks and take measures to prevent accidents and ensure safety.

Optimal speed and capacity of the escalator

Escalator speed has a direct impact on its capacity as well as the space it occupies.
Furthermore, the standard transport speed is between 0.5 m/s and 0.65 m/s, which is significantly higher than the average speed of the lifting system.

Lubrication of escalators and moving walkways

The mechanical parts of escalators and moving walkways require regular lubrication to ensure smooth movement and reduce wear and tear. Without adequate lubrication, components are subjected to increased wear, heat, friction, corrosion and noise. This can necessitate more frequent maintenance, pose a fire safety risk and reduce the components’ service life.

Escalators and types

Different types of escalators and how they are used

In this article, we will introduce you to the different types of escalators and how they are used. This information will be useful and practical.

Escalators and escalators can be installed in various buildings and places for different purposes. They are divided into two general categories:

How do escalators work?

An escalator is supported by a structural frame known as the “escalator truss”, which houses and mounts all its mechanisms. The escalator truss comprises three primary sections: the upper section, the inclined section, and the lower section. Typically, the upper and lower sections are fixed, while the central section can be adjusted to provide variable heights.

How to choose the location of the escalator?

Public movement is an important factor in determining the optimal location for an escalator.
When installing an escalator in a shopping mall, it is advisable to avoid locations near fast-moving stores to minimise congestion.
Escalators and elevators in a shopping mall should be located near the main entrance and along the primary routes of the building’s infrastructure.
Ensure there is sufficient free space on the upper and lower landing platforms.

Escalator moving in reverse direction

Should your escalator suddenly change direction or speed, this is most likely indicative of a malfunction. There are several potential causes for this malfunction. Firstly, the issue may be due to a faulty part. Secondly, the part may have worn out or broken over time. Thirdly, the problem may be due to improper maintenance. For example, the maintenance technicians may have incorrectly installed the parts that are causing the problem.

Escalator support structure

An escalator is supported by a structural frame known as the “escalator support”, which houses and mounts all its mechanisms. This support is divided into three primary sections: the upper section, the inclined section, and the lower section. The upper and lower sections are typically fixed, while the central section can be adjusted to provide variable heights.

Types of handrails for escalators

The handrail is composed of 10mm-thick tempered glass, with a height of 90cm. The transparency of the glass gives the escalator a modern appearance, making it the most popular type of handrail among architects and interior designers. It is manufactured in individual pieces of 1200mm in standard sizes, with no protective caps or partitions at the joints, providing a cleaner and less expensive look. The handrail can be supplied in stainless steel or a combination of glass and stainless steel, and lighting is available as an option. The lighting is located beneath the handrail, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the handrail and escalator as a whole.

Advantages of inverter on escalators

Inverter escalators and escalators as a whole are characterised by a gradual increase in voltage and frequency in accordance with a set acceleration. At the point of initiation, the inverter supplies the motor drive with an adjustable, controlled voltage, thereby ensuring a smooth take-off. Consequently, the main circuits and other key components are not subjected to sudden forced movement, which significantly increases their service life. Furthermore, this system helps to minimise the risk of people falling by preventing a sudden stop when turning off.

Escalator Coating Requirements

Escalator coverings represent a vital component of escalators and walkways, with manufacturers prioritising both aesthetic appeal and safety standards in their designs. These coverings are typically constructed from stainless steel sheets of varying grades, chosen to meet the specific requirements of each project. This approach ensures not only a visually appealing finish but also ease of maintenance and enhanced durability. Stair handrails, supports, decks and landing decks are covered with stainless steel cladding sheets.Proper covering of escalator elements provides better protection of the interior from the effects of factors such as water, snow, dust, etc. from the environment. In addition, the covering of moving components of escalators

Cleaning and using escalators

Escalator and moving walkway owners frequently invest in specialised escalator cleaning equipment (or contract cleaning services) that utilises a “dry” cleaning method. This method involves the deployment of a machine that is integrated into the lifting equipment during operation. The synchronised movement of the escalator and the cleaning machine effectively removes deeply embedded dirt from the tread area, which is typically inaccessible to conventional brushes.

Escalator handrail safety device

In order to prevent individuals from stepping on the lower outer surface and climbing over the outer surface of the escalator, it is necessary to install an anti-climbing device(s). This device is located on the outer lower surface, starting at a height of 1000 ± 50 millimetres from the surface of the finished basement floor. The length of the device is 1000 millimetres, parallel to the handrail. To ensure the safety of passengers’ hands and fingers, the height of this device can be increased by a maximum of 25 millimetres and lowered by 150 millimetres below the handrail. The distance between the handrail and the anti-climbing device is 80 millimetres.
