Escalator layout plan
Escalator layout plan
Since escalators are considered to be the main element that ensures even distribution of passengers between floors of any building, their proper location in the building space is extremely important. The location for escalator installation is prepared and designed according to the customer’s requirements and building utilization. Below are the various installation options that can be selected according to the customer’s requirements:
Single escalator (one-way)
A single escalator is used in small buildings and commercial centers where there is insufficient space to place two escalators side by side to provide two-way traffic or where traffic is intended to travel in one direction. In this arrangement, if the escalator is centrally located, exterior cladding will be required on both sides of the escalator. However, if the escalator is mounted on a wall, only one side of the escalator will require cladding.

Parallel/Intermittent Scheme (bidirectional traffic flow)
It is difficult for passengers to use the parallel scheme because they have to walk quite a long distance to reach the next escalator and continue to other floors; this situation is called “Intermittent Scheme”. In this pattern, passengers have to pass through certain strategic locations by traveling a certain distance, which results in more visits to these locations. For example, in a commercial building with many stores such as a shopping mall, passengers will have to go from one floor to another on an escalator lined up in parallel, get off the escalator and go to the next one. This action will encourage them to look at the shop windows and buy what catches their eye at first sight. This is how escalators are effectively and strategically arranged and designed for each building. With this arrangement, two escalators on the same level can operate in the same direction during peak times.

Scissor layout
The scissor layout is used in areas with large widths. In addition, the continuous flow of passengers reduces pandemonium at boarding areas. The scissor layout is a modern and attractive look with a high level of efficiency.

Cross-editing
A diagonal arrangement has the unique advantage that one can operate the escalator in continuous or intermittent mode by adjusting the direction of the escalator. The disadvantage of this arrangement, especially in commercial centers, is that it obscures the view to the other side of the shaft.
